Forest of Darkness: Prologue
Part I
Performers on the World Stage
They are performers on the World’s great stage
Who live sad lives of chronic poverty,
Rising early each morning to engage
Life’s tasks without the prospect of Glory.
When Lady Luck comes by, they get a call
And, one by one, the yellow buses come,
And, in great hordes, they’re stuffed in ‘till they’re full,
And off they go, forgetting where they’re from.
Eventually they’re at the capital:
The light comes on, the show’s about to start.
They act and sing and dance and make a fool
Out of themselves—satisfied playing their part.
If they would use the eyes God gave to them,
They’d see right through the Adversary’s sham.
